Yoga Therapy for Restful Sleep (6 Week Series) – Thursdays at 7:00-8:30 PM


Learn yoga practices to align your mind with your body for restful sleep, waking up every morning feeling wholesome. This includes calming the mind, releasing tension from the body, and choosing a positive attitude. Yoga practices have been shown to improve overall sleep quality, sleep efficiency, duration, and the amount of time it takes to fall asleep.

This 6-week course will introduce an overview of yoga philosophy about sleep, rest, and yoga relaxation with yoga postures that have a calming effect on the mind and body. During each class we will also practice breathwork and a meditation practice that you can integrate into your personal bedtime routine. This all-levels class is appropriate for students of all ages and abilities.

Week 1 – Real Relaxation, Sleep and Yoga Relaxation – Meet, greet, and gain an overall view of yoga theory and practice. The first class will include an introduction to basic yoga postures, breathing, meditation and relaxation experience.

Week 2 – Sleep and Yoga Relaxation – Overview of the Western view of sleep, coupled with yoga theory, and a practical relaxation experience, including yoga postures, breathing and meditation.

Week 3 – Four-Fold Relaxation Technique Part 1: “Letting Down” – Opening discussion of yoga theory for “letting down” and a practical relaxation experience, including yoga postures, breathing and meditation.

Week 4 – Four-Fold Relaxation Technique Part 2: “Giving Up” – Opening discussion of yoga theory for “giving up” and a practical relaxation experience, including yoga postures, breathing and meditation.

Week 5 – Four-Fold Relaxation Technique Part 3: “Giving In” – Opening discussion of yoga theory for “giving in” and a practical relaxation experience, including yoga postures, breathing and meditation.

Week 6 – Four-Fold Relaxation Technique Part 4: “Giving Over” – Opening discussion of yoga theory for “giving over” and a practical relaxation experience, including yoga postures, breathing and meditation.

Megan co-founded Santa Monica Yoga Studio in 1993; which is still providing yoga classes to this day. She received her Master of Arts Degree – M.F.C.C in 1990 and completed (3) 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs, as well as a 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training Program at Yoga Works in Costa Mesa. She received her Yoga Therapy Rx Clinical Certificate from Loyola Marymount University and has been worked as a yoga therapist at Orange County Pain and Wellness Center from 2010-2015. She was the assistant to supervisor Lori Rubenstein at the Venice Family Clinic for LMU’s Yoga Therapy Rx program, supporting the 4th year students in a yoga therapy clinical setting. She is a Program Director for AlcheMe Yoga Therapist.
