Irvine, Calif. – Shaista Malik, MD, PhD, MPH, founding executive director of UCI Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute, has received the Vision and Leadership Award from Octane, a convening organization for Southern California technology and medical technology businesses.
The award was presented by Octane CEO Bill Carpou, and Dr. Malik was recognized at Octane’s High Tech Awards on September 26, 2024.
“Dr. Malik leads innovative integrative health programs at UCI, addressing the holistic influences on health and wellbeing. Her contributions to patient care, teaching, and research are remarkable, with over 35,000 citations and several NIH grants. Dr. Malik’s dedication to improving healthcare is truly inspiring,” Octane said.

Dr. Malik is also the founding associate vice chancellor of integrative health for the UCI Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences. She is a tenured professor in the UCI division of cardiology, department of medicine, and is the founding medical director of the preventive cardiology and cardiac rehab programs.
Dr. Malik’s excellence in clinical care has earned her recognition as a Physician of Excellence by the Orange County Medical Association and Southern California Super Doctors. In March 2023, Dr. Malik was named “Woman of the Year” for Irvine by California Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris.
