Culinary Medicine Training

For Health Sciences Undergraduate Education
The Culinary Medicine Elective teaches UCI medical students hands-on, practical healthy cooking skills paired with evidence-informed whole food nutritional concepts that will be applicable to their own health, as well as to many future patients they will see with diet-related illness. Lectures, readings and case studies examine the significant role that food choices and nutrition play in preventing and managing several common chronic diseases including obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and hypertension.

For Graduate Training
The Culinary Medicine Training teaches UCI graduate students hands-on, practical healthy cooking skills paired with evidence-informed whole food nutritional concepts that will be applicable to their own health, as well as to many future patients they will see with diet-related illness. Lectures, readings and case studies examine the significant role that food choices and nutrition play in preventing and managing several common chronic diseases including obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and hypertension.

For Continuing Integrative Health Education
What we eat affects our health and wellbeing. Yet, most physicians receive very little nutrition education during medical school and subsequent training. Many times, they feel ill-equipped to provide dietary guidance to patients with chronic medical issues. Our focus on nutrition education in medicine recognizes the importance of food and dietary practices to aid in management of many commonly seen conditions

For Community Education
The Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute is committed to ensuring that integrative health education is available and accessible to all members in our community. Through collaboration with organizations that share our vision, we aim to broaden our reach in educating community members in various integrative modalities and teachings through events, lectures, classes and workshops, including culinary education.
