Children’s Health

Overview

Children and adolescents are in a unique position to benefit from integrative health approaches which focus on optimizing health and preventing disease. Whether it be through improving diet and lifestyle, educating parents and guardians about principles of healthy living, or using safe and effective integrative treatments to address common health concerns, our providers are dedicated to helping you and your family achieve your best health.

Principles

Our philosophy is to engage, support and empower each of our young patients and their families to be proactive with their healthcare.

Children are especially sensitive to the influences surrounding them, all of which determine how they grow mentally, emotionally, socially and physically. This same sensitivity also makes them highly responsive to integrative health therapies.

Our providers get to know all aspects of your child’s health, including diet and nutrition, lifestyle, environment and emotions. These details are considered alongside presenting symptoms to help identify any underlying causes of your child’s illness.

Conditions

Common pediatric conditions we treat include:

  • Immune health – allergies, asthma, coughs, colds and flu, ear infections
  • Gastrointestinal complaints – acid reflux, colic, constipation, diarrhea, stomach issues
  • Mental health – anxiety, depression, stress-related conditions, sleep issues
  • Neurological – concussions, headaches, learning and neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Hormonal changes – premenstrual syndrome, polycystic ovary syndrome, menstrual issues (dysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, irregular periods)
  • Musculoskeletal – growing pains, temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ), plagiocephaly, torticollis, sprains
  • Dermatological – acne, eczema, atopic dermatitis, hives

Services

Our providers perform standard blood tests, imaging and examinations. Additional tests may be ordered to further evaluate your child’s health. Your provider might suggest food sensitivity or allergy tests; stool tests to evaluate the digestive system and microbiome; or nutrient tests to identify any nutrient deficiencies.

Treatments offered at the Samueli Institute include evidence-informed integrative therapies. These range from dietary and lifestyle modifications to nutritional supplements including vitamins, minerals, and/or herbal medicines to stress management tools and more. Medically necessary and indicated medications are prescribed when appropriate.
