Health Education to Advance Leaders in Integrative Medicine (HEAL-IM) Track

Curriculum

First- and second-year students participate in a monthly seminar series that includes presentations by a rotating panel of UCI and integrative medicine community specialists on topics covering a range of integrative medicine practices and skills.

During the second, third and fourth years of the HEAL-IM curriculum, students participate in a quarterly multidisciplinary patient-care conference. This includes patient case presentations by faculty in family medicine, osteopathy, nursing, naturopathy, as well as practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, chiropractic and Ayurvedic medicine.

Fourth-year medical students participate in an integrative medicine clinical elective, allowing them to see and practice the clinical application of integrative medicine in a variety of practice environments.

Throughout the four years of the program, HEAL-IM students also complete a variety of online evidence-based education modules through the University of Arizona covering a broad span and scope of integrative medicine.

School of Medicine Elective Courses

UCI medical students who are not HEAL-IM Scholars may also participate in integrative health electives.

  • First- and second-year students may enroll in the Culinary Medicine Elective
  • Fourth-year students may enroll in the Integrative Medicine Clinical Elective (depending on scheduling availability)
