Overview
Integrative neuropsychology combines neurology, the study of the nervous system, with psychology, the study of the mind and how it affects behavior. An integrative health approach to neuropsychology considers the brain’s health from a whole person approach.
Integrative neuropsychology focuses on understanding the relationship between brain function, cognitive processes, behavior and overall mental health. It combines principles and methods from various disciplines, including neuropsychology, clinical psychology, cognitive psychology, neurobiology, and more, to provide a comprehensive understanding of how the brain and mind interact.
Principles
Integrative neuropsychology examines how brain damage, dysfunction or alterations can lead to changes in cognitive functions, emotions and behaviors. Integrative neuropsychology recognizes that the brain is a complex organ with different regions and networks that are intricately interconnected. Taking a whole-person approach to brain-related disorders or cognitive deficits considers the interplay between cognitive domains and neural mechanisms and the overall health and wellbeing of an individual by integrating knowledge from multiple disciplines.
