Acupressure for Labor Pain and After Delivery Care: integrative, non-pharmacologic approaches to care
Acupressure can be used to support labor pain, breastfeeding and to promote the overall health and wellness of a new mom during the first days after birth.
Join us for a 60-minute instructor-led-group (Zoom) acupressure class designed by an experienced licensed acupuncturist from the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute to teach pregnant mothers and their labor partner(s) about how to apply acupressure during labor and after delivery. The course will also provide information about integrative postpartum care.
The program is taught by one of two instructors, Mariko Horie LAc, DAOM and Heather Rice LAc.
The program is offered:

- On the second Thursday of the month from 11 a.m. to noon

Heather Rice, LAc
Heather was licensed as a Acupuncturist from the National Board and State of California in 2002 and has practiced acupuncture SSIHI since August 2007. Heather attended UC Santa Cruz where she earned a BS in Biology. She graduated from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego with a Master's of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine. Her specialties include sports medicine, pain management, women’s health, and mental-emotional disorders. Heather has been integrating aromatherapy into her acupuncture treatments for 25 years. She is a certified Naturalist and loves to share her knowledge of the outdoors and has led " Hikes with Heather" for the Wellbeing Circle. Her hobbies are mediation, hiking, backpacking, making herbal medicine, and practicing yoga.
Mariko Horie LAc, DAOM
Mariko Horie, LAc., DAOM is committed to providing best possible care for each patient. She loves how Chinese medicine offers a variety of treatment methods and how treatment can be customized according to patient’s needs and preference. After earning Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. Horie studied in China for 1.5 years as a senior scholar. She is licensed in states of California and Oregon. Dr. Horie started as a full-time inpatient acupuncturist at UCI Medical Center as of July of 2019. She is now with inpatient 4 days a week and at the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute’s Costa Mesa clinic on Wednesdays.
